While travel to and from Manteo was somewhat restrictive in the early days, once there you could expect to encounter fine horseless carriages...just like anywhere else!

The Roanoke Sound Bridge was a great convenience in traveling from south Nags Head to Manteo. The authors can also remember when the charter boats along this canal next to the bridge where a favorite for inshore fishing expeditions.
